I am writing to express my strong support for SANJIV OHRI for Mayor, and for MICHELLE TORPEY and ERIC SCHLETT as they seek seats on the Borough Council.
I served on the Glen Rock Board of Education for a brief period and worked with Sanjiv. His dedication to providing the best education for all Glen Rock students was and remains obvious. His comments on and knowledge of all issues before the Board showed thoughtful consideration and time spent on research and fact-finding. He did his homework. His willingness to work with all Board members to find the best results for the children of Glen Rock was always his goal.
Eric has a history of volunteer activities in Glen Rock. He is co-founder of the Glen Rock Wrestling Program and has coached baseball, football, soccer and wrestling. He has clearly been committed to Glen Rock sports for our children. As a five-year member of the Glen Rock Fire Department, he has helped to keep us, our children and our homes safe.
Michelle’s commitment to Glen Rock is well-known and quite amazing. When she takes on a project, no matter how difficult, you know it will get done. In her professional career as a pharmacist, she was a District Manager for the A&P. Here in Glen Rock she was HSA president at Byrd School and a Boy Scout Pack leader. She took the lead in arranging for the first secure drug disposal box in town. She is co-chair of Glen Rock for Autism Awareness. She is VP for the IDA organization and is involved with “Glen Rock Downtown for the Holidays” Committee. All this while raising three children.
Issues which are nationwide in nature are certainly important to be informed on and involved in. However, as a former Council member, I consider the top priority for those who govern Glen Rock should be the issues that face Glen Rock and affect residents first hand.
And there are many issues confronting Glen Rock that recently seem to have been neglected. The parking shortage in our town needs long-term and serious attention. Adding a few spaces here and there is not the answer.
Our seniors want to stay in the town they helped make what it is today. I am fortunate enough to live at Glen Courts. It’s a hidden gem but not large enough to accommodate all those senior Glen Rockers who are anxious to be here. Other options need to be investigated.
The deadline to come up with an Affordable Housing solution didn’t just surface. What if the property on Rock Road did not become available at the 11th hour? What would the solution have been? Maybe input and brainstorming with residents could have helped.
Sanjiv, Michelle and Eric have given much to our town and they want to continue to give. They have demonstrated their commitment to all Glen Rock residents. On November 5th, let’s elect residents who will pay attention to Glen Rock first.
