GLEN ROCK, NJ - The third annual Breakfast with Santa to benefit the Glen Rock Dog Park had doggies and their owners howling with delight Oct. 8.

Santa Claus (Councilman Michael O’Hagan) and Mrs. Claus (Patricia Zengel ~ GR Holiday Committee Treasurer and Keller Williams Realtor) greeted children at the Glen Rock Inn as they claimed their names on the "nice" list and ate pancakes in support of The Glen Rock Dog Park.

Glen Rock Dog Park Board Members Linda Brennan, Christine Pfeiffer and Eileen Maher Hillock attended along with dozens of local families. Michelle Torpey assisted as local Girl Scouts hosted a holiday craft session at the event, as well.

The Glen Rock Dog Park (GRDP), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded Aug. 29, 2015, raises funds for an off-leash doggy recreation area planned for 390 Doremus Avenue. The park will be dedicated to the 9/11 Search and Rescue Dogs.

The group was prepared to break ground earlier this year until things took a sad turn.

“The Glen Rock Dog Park Board of Directors is regrouping after the sudden death of our contractor who was donating construction services pro bono," Eileen Hillock said. "We are in discussions with a replacement builder and hope to break ground on the park this spring.”

Hillock's daughter, CEO Michelle Hillock, conceived the idea as part of a Girl Scout project almost six years ago at the age of 14. The GRDP non-profit is completely volunteer led and privately funded. To date, the non-profit has raised over $15,000, with professional services donated on a pro bono basis.

“Thank you so much for your patience and understanding as we have worked through many hurdles over many years to get to this point," Eileen said in an email statement. "We appreciate the unwavering community support. Persistence and perseverance pays off -  the end, or should I say the beginning, is in sight!”

With more than 1,000 dogs registered to Glen Rock families, the eco-friendly dog park will be a welcome addition turning a current unused, neglected piece of land behind the recycling center into a park to be enjoyed by the community, Eileen said.
