FAIR LAWN, NJ - Assunta Trischka and Barbara Gomes have led Fair Lawn and Glen Rock respectively through Relay for Life, a year-long cancer fundraiser, for four years, and on Monday, they bid their fundraising gang adieu.

The two happy ladies who brought enthusiasm and cheer to each event, were still bringin' it, even during COVID-19. While they were unable to have in-person events during the fundraising season which typically begins in February and ends in August, there were Zoom meetings and Facebook efforts to raise approximately $35,000 this year. The pandemic cut into their efforts, which in previous years when there was an all night event, reached upwards of $75,000 annually. The two-day events alternated between the two towns, which prior to that would conduct separate events in each town.

The final meeting for this year was in-person and took place on August 24 at The Dutch House. Attendees were social distancing and wearing masks on an evening that threatened rain, but remained warm and inviting in the area immediately next to the historic bar where the new normal is eating outdoors.
