GLEN ROCK, NJ - The current milling and paving project on Rock Road and Maple Avenue is understandably causing major traffic delays which cannot be avoided, borough officials said today in an email notice.
"Safety over convenience will always be the priority," officials stated. "Motorists will need to leave home early, expect delays and plan alternate routes."
Locals have reported the inconvenience but many have also said they understand it's temporary.
The progress of the project is dependent upon many factors and "estimates provided by the County are just that, estimates," officials said. "Roads will be closed when they need to be closed and they will be reopened when it is safe to do so."
The rest is the message from the borough:
"The County is responsible to put detour signs in place and are doing so each day. Glen Rock Police Department Officers will however double check the detours. All detours are in place based upon work zone safety standards. Requests from members of the public to change detours cannot be accommodated.
"Each and every morning the Glen Rock Police Department will provide Central Dispatch with the location of the road construction with closure information. Central Dispatch will generate a Nixle message. At the end of the day when the project is completed a follow up message will be generated advising that the road has been reopened.
Resident Commuter and Employee Permit Parking will generally not be effected. Shopper parking on Rock Road will be limited while work is in progress and shoppers should plan accordingly. The parking lot behind the mall will remain open via either Glen Avenue or Valley Road to Austin Place depending upon the location of road work in progress.
During this period of time residents and employees WITH PERMITS will be permitted to park in the Wilde Park lot for the day, only during the dates of the road work. Permits must be displayed on their vehicles. This is being provided on a convenience, but most likely will not be necessary.
Residents are reminded to expect delays and plan alternate routes. From day to day conditions will vary and parking for shoppers may be limited while work is being done.
The milling and paving of these roads will occur on the following schedule:
Milling - July 25th to 30th, 2019
Paving - July 31st to August 2nd, 2019
Milling - August 5th to 8th, 2019

Update for today, July 29th:
Starting today Rock Road from Glen Avenue to Maple Avenue will be closed due to road work.
A detour will be available on Ackerman Avenue.
Parking will be available in the surrounding side streets. The Central Business District will open.
