FAIR LAWN, NJ - With the opening of the state, municipal pools are allowed to be open as of June 22, with the precautions against COVID-19, as we've come to know them. Fair Lawn is looking to open Memorial Pool on or around June 22.
"We'll do everything we can to hit that mark," Mayor Kurt Peluso said on June 9. "We need to be sure our lifeguards and staff are ready."
Glen Rock is looking to open its pool for lap swimming on June 29 and open swim on July 17, for their residents only.
In Fair Lawn, as in Glen Rock, masks will be required, along with social distancing, requirements society has come to know as "safe".
Peluso said borough sports fields are included. "We're getting our fields up and running."
"There has been a tremendous drop in cases," Peluso said. "As long as we keep the curve dropping, we can continue to open."
As of June 8, Fair Lawn had 173 positive cases of COVID-19, a 57% reduction from the high of 403 on April 28. There has been 461 individuals who have recovered.
Fair Lawn has suffered 48 deaths, 26 were current residents and 22 were from long term care facilities.
