GLEN ROCK, NJ - The Byrd Elementary School had several fundraisers this year in which they raised more than $2,500 and donated food during a holiday food drive.
Byrd School’s Student Council ran three major fundraisers this year, according to school officials: Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, a Thanksgiving Food Drive, and Byrd School’s Spirit Week, where all proceeds are donated to The Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
The numbers were record-breaking, school administrator's said. "Richard E. Byrd School, which has a total number of 250 students, surpassed each and every goal that was set for the three fundraisers," they said.
In October, Byrd School students collected $755.11 to help benefit Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Then in November, the Byrd School community donated over 400 items to Ridgewood Social Services’ Thanksgiving Food Drive.
"Even more amazingly, the Byrd School community raised $1,800 during Spirit Week to donate to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation," school officials said. "That is almost double the amount that was raised last year! The numbers show what an amazing group of children Byrd School has and how dedicated they are to helping those less fortunate than themselves.
"As the advisors of Student Council, Ms. Quinlan and Mrs. Groszew would like to thank Principal Craft for all her support and innovative ideas this year. They also could not be more proud of the hard work of the Student Council members and the generosity of the Byrd School Community this year. THANK YOU!!"
