GLEN ROCK, NJ - In an effort to "Remember, Honor, Teach," local volunteers will further the mission of Wreaths Across America, ensuring the memory of those who served the country endures, on National Wreaths Across America Day, Dec. 8.

"I am so proud to be working with our local Veterans, Dylan Jorgensen ~ also a "Wreaths Across America" Group Leader and member of the Washington Elm Society, Boy Scout Troop #27, the Glen Rock Holiday Committee and with the support of the Borough to bring the "Wreaths Across America" ceremony to Glen Rock for the very first time," organizer Eileen Hillock said. "I love this event because it is not meant to remember veterans deaths, but rather, to celebrate their lives."

The borough is an an official Wreaths Across America (WAA) location, Hillock said. Joining more than 1,200 other locations across the country this month for a wreath-laying ceremony, local volunteers will gather to place wreaths at three significant veteran memorial locations in Glen Rock.

"For each wreath placed, the veteran's name is said aloud and they are thanked for their service to our country," she said. "As 9/11 was a 'never forget' moment for America, so too is the idea of "never forgetting" individual veterans and their service to our great Country. Our wreaths are a gift of appreciation and of remembrance to our Glen Rock veterans."

"As it is the 100-year anniversary of the end of WWI, our Glen Rock ceremony will be unique in that our Scouts will read aloud the names of all Glen Rockers who served in the war during the ceremony, not just those who lost their lives in combat," Hillock said. "We encourage residents to do the same for those names listed at the Harding Plaza memorial."

Volunteers and those interested will gather 1 p.m. sharp at the Veterans Memorial, 1 Harding Plaza, Saturday, Dec. 8. In addition to that location, the Rock and Veterans Park will display wreaths, as well.

WWA Coordinators, Veterans and their families, Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts, Washington Elm Society, and local government officials will be in attendance.

Wreaths were donated by Glen Rock Boy Scout Troop # 27.
