HAWTHORNE, NJ - Following the disastrous collapse of a pedestrian bridge over Route 208 where a Bobcat plow plunged through and fell onto a commercial van owned by Hawthorne Mechanical Contractors, one lane of the southbound side was re-opened. But the northbound side, where the tragic accident took place, remained closed as of Monday night.
The borough of Hawthorne announced that drivers should expect congestion and re-routed traffic until further notice.
"Three injuries have been reported and parties have been transported to local hospitals," Hawthorne Police Captain Jeffrey Vanderhook said. Information regarding the identity of the drivers of the vehicles was not available late on Monday.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation, State Police, the Passaic County Prosecutors Office, and the Hawthorne Police are cooperating in an ongoing investigation into the matter.
