FAIR LAWN, NJ - A Clifton couple beat a 23-year-old Hawthorne man with a golf club in front of Walgreens on River Road in an apparent "road rage" incident, according to Fair Lawn police.
The two men in the incident, Mariusz Czerwinski, 44, and the Hawthorne man went to the hospital after an apparent fight that occurred on River Road at Walgreens in what police are calling a "road rage" incident.
Just after 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, police responded to a report of a fight in the roadway at 17-77 River Road, which is in front of Walgreens. Czerwinski was driving a 2014 Chrysler van with his wife, Sylwia Czerwinska, 42, as a passenger.
Mariusz "passed...and then stopped in front" of the 2016 Ford Focus driven by the Hawthorne man.
"Both operators exited their vehicles and after words were exchanged, Czerwinski returned to his vehicle, retrieved a golf club and struck the victim in the head," police said in a press release. "The victim then jumped on Czerwinski in the roadway. As this occurred, [Sylwia] retrieved the same golf club that had been dropped during the fight and proceeded to strike the victim multiple times with the club until police arrived."
Both men were transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center with head injuries "that are not believed to be life threatening," police said.
Czerwinski, the male driver of the Chrysler who "as of this writing is still being treated at the medical center," police said, will be charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Czerwinska, the wife, was arrested at police headquarters and will also be charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. She was being held at police headquarters on Sunday evening.
Police said the victim was released from the medical center on Sunday evening.
