John Kelly responded to 7-Eleven, 31-28 Broadway, on a report of a customer dispute and arrested Montez Nelson, age 45 of Elmwood Park, after he was observed dropping marijuana on the ground during questioning. He was released after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
08/04/2019 4:44 pm Driving While Intoxicated: Sgt. Sean Macys initiated a motor vehicle stop on Fair Lawn Avenue at Plaza Road and arrested Gustavo Mejia-Escobar, age 63 of Paterson, after he failed a roadside sobriety test. He was released to a responsible adult after being charged with failure to keep right, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated & failure to submit to breath samples.
08/13/2019 10:17 am Shoplifting: P.O. Luis Vasquez was entering CVS, 24-12 Fair Lawn Avenue, when he was notified by employees that a female leaving the store, Yevgeniya Nutskovsky, age 71 of Fair Lawn, had attempted to return stolen items, totaling $26.85. He arrested her without incident. She was released after being charged with shoplifting.
08/13/2019 9:39 pm Wanted Person: P.O. Justin DiGuglielmo initiated a motor vehicle stop on Maple Avenue at Cedar Street and arrested the operator, Hany Abdulla, age 39 of Woodbridge, after an arrest warrant was located out of Woodbridge for $289. He was charged with operating with a suspended license, then released after bail was posted.
08/14/2019 12:35 am Wanted Person: P.O. Juan Rodriguez initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 208 North at Maple Avenue and arrested the operator, Sabrina Zegarra, age 20 of Paterson, after an arrest warrant was located out of Fair Lawn for $451. She was charged with operating with a suspended license, then sent to Bergen County Jail.
08/14/2019 7:00 pm Narcotics: P.O. Geovanny Buitron approached an occupied vehicle in the parking lot of 17-15 Broadway and arrested Nicholas Gloria Jr, age 50 of Paramus, after he failed a roadside sobriety test. Oxycodone pills were discovered inside the vehicle. He was released to a responsible adult after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), being under the influence of CDS & driving while intoxicated.
08/15/2019 2:05 am Receiving Stolen Property: P.O. Geovanny Buitron approached a male, standing in the roadway on Broadway at Hartley Place attempting to hitchhike, and arrested Mark Gero, age 61 of Paterson, after arrest warrants were located out of Hudson County (no bail), Morris County (no bail), Secaucus (no bail) & Mahwah ($476). A search of his belongings turned up evidence of drug use and shoplifted items from an unknown business. Gero, who initially gave false information during questioning, was charged with possession of a hypodermic needle, possession of drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property & hindering his own apprehension, then was handed over to the Hudson County Sheriff׳s Department.
08/16/19 08/15/2019 2:44 pm Aggravated Assault: Fair Lawn Police responded to Southern Drive at Urban Place on a report of a stabbing that had occurred. The victim, a 22-year-old male from Fair Lawn, had gone to a residence on 26th Street to approach the actor about unwanted harassing text messages when the actor, Japneet Chani, age 22 of Fair Lawn, approached the victim and cut him with a salai needle. Chani was arrested without incident. He was released after being charged with aggravated assault & possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The victim was treated by members of the Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps on scene.
08/16/2019 1:41 am Driving While Intoxicated: P.O. Geovanny Buitron initiated a motor vehicle stop on George Street at Fair Lawn Avenue and arrested the operator, Lisa Quiroga, age 40 of Fair Lawn, after she failed a roadside sobriety test. She was released to a responsible adult after being charged with lights required at night, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to possess an insurance card, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated within 1000 feet of a school & refusal to submit to breath samples.
Chief Glen Cauwels stated all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
