GLEN ROCK, NJ – Police arrested a local resident for the recent theft of two Glen Rock DPW vehicles and a residential burglary on the 300 block of Doremus Avenue.
Police arrested Colin H. McCann, 38, on May 14, just after 4:30 p.m., when he was in possession of a stolen vehicle out of Midland Park.
The investigation began on May 6, just before 7 a.m. when the Glen Rock DPW reported the theft of one of their trucks from the Borough Yard overnight, according to police. Upon recovering the vehicle, it was discovered that several thousand dollars worth of tools were missing. Several days later, police said, the staff at the DPW realized that a seldom used older vehicle had also been stolen from the Borough Yard sometime prior.
In the days immediately following this incident, police began to investigate a residential burglary on the 300 block of Doremus Avenue, including thefts from unlocked vehicles, and the theft of bicycles all from residential areas near the Glen Rock Borough Yard.
Utilizing video surveillance footage, tracking the usage of a credit card stolen during the burglary, and other investigative leads, police identifed McCann as the actor. Through investigation, the detectives determined the actor was staying in a Paterson neighborhood and began surveillance operations.
Following his arrest, McCann was transported back to Glen Rock Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with seven counts of theft and one count each of Burglary and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card. He was then transported to New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus.
Chief Dean Ackermann states that these charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Midland Park and Paterson Police Departments for their cooperation in this investigation.
