GLEN ROCK, NJ - New Jersey Transit identified the woman who was struck and killed on the tracks yesterday as a 62-year-old female Glen Rock resident.
No specifics about how the incident occurred were available at the time this report was posted, and according to an NJ Transit spokesperson, it is still under investigation.
However, Glen Rock Police issued a report yesterday, Jan. 22, stating at approximately 10:30 a.m., they assisted NJ Transit Police on a report of an individual struck by a train along the Bergen Line railroad tracks near the Harristown Road grade crossing.
When police arrived, they found the woman "in a lifeless state."
"As this fatality occurred within NJ Transit’s jurisdiction, the Transit Police are the lead investigative agency," Glen Rock Chief Dean Ackermann said in the press release. Glen Rock Police provided support and assistance on the scene.
NJ Transit said there were 35 passengers and crew on the train when the incident occurred and service was temporarily suspended on the Bergen County line in both directions.
The railroad crossing was reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic at 2 p.m., according the Glen Rock Police.
