During the period between August 12 and August 18, 2019 members of the GRPD handled 244 calls for service, the highlights of which included:

08-12-2019 - 4:21 PM – A resident on the 200 block of Gramercy Place reported the theft of $150 worth of sandpaper from his yard. This reportedly occurred sometime after August 8th when the complainant left the box of sandpaper at the side of his home.  

08-14-2019 - 1:37 PM – An electrician working at the Glen Rock High School reported the theft of a Bluetooth speaker valued at $100.  With the cooperation of the administration at the school the actor was identified on video surveillance as a 16-year-old Glen Rock male who was at the school for football practice.  P.O. Jim Donnelly was able to recover the speaker which was returned to the victim who did not wish to sign complaints. The matter is being handled by the school as a disciplinary issue.

08-14-2019 - 1:39 PM – A woman walking in Sycamore Park reported discovering graffiti in the form of a swastika, about 12 inches in diameter, painted on a rock along a trail in an obscure location near a fallen tree limb. It is unknown how long the graffiti had been present. The Glen Rock DPW responded to paint over the graffiti. A bias incident offense report was filed, and the matter has been reviewed by the detective bureau. No evidence exists to identify a specific offender or determine when the offense occurred.    

08-14-2019 - 2:35 PM – A Glen Rock woman reported that a fraudulent Comcast Cable account was opened in her husband’s name using their Glen Rock address. The account had a balance of $507.56 due. The cable company has been contacted and notified of the fraud. The matter is currently under review by the detective bureau in association with a previous credit fraud report filed by the same victim earlier this year.  

08-15-2019 - Following a two-week investigation into the fraudulent purchase of $536 worth of alcohol and cigarettes, using a stolen credit card, from Bottle King Liquors on Prospect Street, D/Sgt. Jim Calaski obtained an arrest warrant for Mahmoud Adbeldayem, age 32 who was last known to reside in Bloomingdale, NJ.  Adbeldayem remains a fugitive wanted on charges of receiving stolen property. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact D/Sgt. Calaski at (201) 670-3948 or jcalaski@glenrockpolice.com. 

08-15-2019 - 2:50 PM – A Glen Rock woman reported being involved in a road rage incident with the driver of a landscaping truck. The matter began in Glen Rock and proceeded into Hawthorne. As the driver had left the area prior to the report and could not be immediately identified officers could not interview him to get his side of the story. She was advised that the detective bureau would attempt to identify the driver if she wished to sign a complaint and seek a probable cause hearing before the Glen Rock or Hawthorne Municipal Court.    

08-15-2019 - 7:40 PM – A 2017 grey Acura parked on the 700 block of Ackerman Avenue, near Hillman Avenue, was struck by a hit and run vehicle. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision and can identify the vehicle which fled north towards Ridgewood is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department at (201) 652-3800.   

08-15-2019 - 9:10 PM – A Glen Rock man reported receiving a notification from Fidelity Investments concerning wire transfers from his account. Two transactions totaling $32,500 were in process and a third was pending. He contacted Fidelity’s Fraud Department and they were able to terminate the transfers and lock his account. The man also found that his AT&T cellphone had been compromised by an unknown individual who purchased a SIM card for his cell number in Yonkers, NY. The detective bureau is currently reviewing the matter. 

08-17-2019 - 9:33 AM – A resident on the 100 block of Rutland Road reported that his 2010 Mercedes Benz had been stolen out of his driveway overnight. The keys had been left in the vehicle along with a set of golf clubs valued at $500. There are no known witnesses nor was any evidence recovered. The vehicle has been entered into NCIC as stolen. 

In recent years numerous vehicles have been stolen throughout the region by actors who specifically target vehicles where drivers have left keys or key fobs in their unlocked vehicles. Nine out of twelve vehicles reported stolen in Glen Rock over the last three years have been taken under these circumstances.  Motorist are reminded that it is never safe to leave your vehicle unlocked or your keys in your vehicle, even in your driveway. 

08-17-2019 - 12:42 PM – Following a seven-week investigation into the June 27th burglary at the Glen Rock Municipal Pool, Det. Lucas Doney arrested a 33-year-old Ridgewood woman for burglary and theft.  She was processed at Police Headquarters and released on her own recognizance pending an appearance before Central Judicial Processing at the Superior Court in Hackensack on August 30, 2019. The Ridgewood Police Detective Bureau also assisted with this investigation. 

08-17-2019 - 7:55 PM – During the course of a motor vehicle stop along Lincoln Avenue, P.O. Sam Evans arrested a 43-year-old Wayne man on an active warrant issued by the Paterson Municipal Court. The man was transported to police headquarters where he posted $750 bail and was released pending a court appearance.  He was also issued a traffic summons for operation of a motor vehicle with an obstructed windshield.
