GLEN ROCK, NJ - Neither a Glen Rock pedestrian, nor a Glen Rock driver remembered what happened the moment a collision caused their lives to intersect, but video footage from a nearby house offered clues reminding the driver of her "abrupt" turn, police said.
On Nov. 11, at approximately 6 p.m., a 15-year-old Glen Rock girl was struck by a motor vehicle while crossing the street on Belvidere Road at Harristown Road, police said.
The girl was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson with non-life threatening, but serious injuries.
Initially, neither she nor the driver could recount exactly what occurred, police said. Neither saw each other prior to the impact. However, officers were able to obtain video footage from a nearby home which captured the entire incident.
"The girl was clearly in the crosswalk, well into crossing the street with no vehicles in the area at the time she began crossing the street," police said. "The driver, a 43-year-old Glen Rock woman, cut a sharp left turn from Harristown onto Belvidere and abruptly entered into the crosswalk striking the girl as she crossed."
Based upon the video, as well as physical evidence on the scene, police issued the driver summonses for careless driving and failure to stop for a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.
