FAIR LAWN, NJ - Police captured a Plainfield man after he sped off from a motor vehicle stop on Broadway this morning.

At approximately 10 a.m., police stopped Anthony Jenkins, 53, who was driving a 2015 Chrysler van, on Broadway westbound at 29th Street, police said. After the officer had spoken to the driver, he returned to his patrol vehicle. At that point, Jenkins "sped off on Broadway through Elmwood Park and into Paterson with [the officer] in pursuit," police said.

Fair Lawn Police broke off the pursuit in the area of Sparrow Street in Paterson, according to their report. "Paterson Police located the vehicle parked, with Jenkins walking near by, in the area of North 11th Street and Clinton Street and arrested Jenkins without incident," Fair Lawn Police said.

Jenkins is currently being held at Fair Lawn Police Headquarters. He will be charged with eluding, obstruction of justice and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with multiple motor vehicle charges. 

Chief Glen Cauwels stated all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
