FAIR LAWN, NJ - A 24-year-old man bit a police officer and struck other officers after police responded to an incident in Ferry Heights, which is off Hedman Place and Fair Lawn Avenue, police said.
On July 8, before 8 p.m., police responded to Ferry Heights on a report of a dispute when, upon arrival, "a male was found yelling as he approached the patrol vehicle and began to strike the vehicle׳s passenger-side window with his fist."
As three officers, including officer Javier Gutierrez, attempted to assess the situation, the male, identified as Fiaro Balkin, 24, of Fair Lawn, began to poke another officer in the chest, then pushed Officer Gutierrez with his hands, police said.
As officers attempted to place Balkin under arrest, he bit Officer Gutierrez on the hand while striking the other officers, according to police.
Balkin was transported to New Bridge Medical Center for treatment, police said. He was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstruction.
Officer Gutierrez was treated and released from Valley Hospital for a laceration to his hand.
