GLEN ROCK, NJ - Greg Schlett, a Glen Rock High School senior, won the 160-pound individual title at the 60th Annual George Jockish Bergen County Coaches Association Wrestling Tournament, the first such win since 2001.
In the opening round of the tournament that took place on Dec. 27 and 28 at Hackensack High School, Schlett defeated Daniel Ibrahim of Paramus by pin in 1:37. He then defeated Luke Munier of Cresskill by a score of 5-2 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Schlett defeated Alex Bedoya of Northern Valley Old Tappan by Technical Fall with a score of 16-1 to advance to the finals. In the Finals, Schlett defeated Pascack Valley’s Luke Petaccia by a score of 8-4 to secure the BCCA Title at 160 pounds.
Schlett is Glen Rock’s first Bergen County Coaches Association Champion since Evan Gallucio won the tournament in 2001.
School officials call the win an "unbelievable accomplishment for a wrestler from a school of Glen Rock’s size."
