FLEMINGTON, NJ – A borough man was arrested on sex assault charges yesterday.
Ernesto Mendez, 25, was charged with one count of second-degree aggravated sexual assault and one third-degree charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
The arrest was announced in a press release issued by Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III; his Chief of Detectives John J. Kuczynski; and Flemington Police Lt. Jerry Rotella. It follows a joint investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Flemington police.
According to the release, an investigation by detectives revealed Mendez had sexual relations with a child under the age of 16. The offenses are alleged to have happened between August 2014 and this month.
Judge Angela F. Borkowski set bail at $50,000 and Mendez was lodged in the Somerset County Jail.
On Nov. 12, Mendez was arrested by Flemington police and charged with burglary. Bail on that charge was set at $15,000.
