RINGOES, NJ – Maddalena’s, the catering company that’s famous for its cheesecakes, has been the victim of a substantial theft, according to State Police.

Kay Hayes, 54, of Lambertville, was arrested and charged after an investigation that began last year, said State Police Trooper Alejandra Goez this afternoon.

Maddalena's is headquartered on the outskirts of Ringoes, a hamlet in East Amwell. East Amwell has no police force of its own, so State Police are responsible for its policing.

Hayes was charged with theft, identity theft, forgery and tampering with records. She was arrested Nov. 9 and lodged in Somerset County Jail with bail set at $50,000.

The arrest was made by a detective working out of the Kingwood State Police barracks. The arrest follows an investigation that began after the owner of Maddalena’s contacted State Police and told them of the suspicion of “foul play,” Goez said. An investigation of company records was then conducted, he said.

Hayes is a former employee of Maddalena’s, Goez said. He added that State Police expect to release more information about the arrest shortly.
