MONTGOMERY, NJ — Three players combined for 12 3-pointers to lift the Hunterdon Central boys basketball team to a 76-75 victory over Montgomery in overtime Saturday afternoon.
Matt Ciszkowski scored a team-high 26 points and sank two 3-pointers. Charles Gillikin buried seven 3-pointers and finished with 23 points. And Conner Hercek hit three 3s and totaled 17 points for the Red Devils (10-4).
Montgomery (10-4) rallied from a five-point deficit in the final 20 seconds of the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. Matt Przekop's 3-pointer with nine seconds left in regulation tied the game, 68-68, and forced OT.
In overtime, Ciszkowski sank a 3-pointer to give Hunterdon Central a 71-70 lead. After Ryan Curry's 3-pointer gave Montgomery a 73-71 lead, Hercek connected on a 3-pointer from the right corner with 2:25 left for a 74-73 Red Devils lead.
Eric Molto, who finished with eight points, sank two free throws with 2:01 left to extend Hunterdon Central's lead to three. Chris Rubayo, who led Montgomery with 31 points, scored on a layup with 1:13 left to cut the Red Devils' lead to one, but neither team scored in the final minute.
It was the second consecutive one-point game Hunterdon Central was involved in within a 24-hour period. The Red Devils lost on the road to Middletown South, 65-64, Friday night after rallying from a 10-point deficit in the final quarter to come within a point.
Ciszkowski and Hercek each finished with 16 points in the Friday game, and Molto had 14 points. Hunterdon Central's season is now complete.
