BRANCHBURG, NJ - The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg presents the Lustig Dance Theatre in an evening of contemporary ballet, Saturday, March 5, at 8 p.m.

The presentation is part of the Theatre’s Major Artists Series. The company will perform Uncertain Steps, Luminaire, and The Weight of Curiosity.

"Uncertain Steps" is based on the improvised moments that were part of baroque dances. The ballet unfolds in patterns both formal and decorative; the piece is inspired by the Bach Cello Suite No. 6.

"Luminaire" is inspired by light - both physical and metaphoric. Luminaire represents both the physicality of light as it cuts through darkness, and the inspiration created by one eminent in his or her field. The piece is performed to the music of Max Richter, and the dancers appear like spirits from an ancient ballet that have come to life. It begins as a candle flickers and accelerates to showcase virtuosic dancing.

"The Weight of Curiosity" explores not only our nature to search, but also our responsibility to look deeper at the world around us. The piece is set to the driving Keyboard Concerto in D Minor by JS Bach. The dancers create a canvas of energy that fills the stage before unfolding into an introspective duet surrounded by the haunting melody of Max Richter.

The Lustig Dance Theatre promotes artistic innovation through the creation of new work. Collaborations with other New Jersey artists and organizations is a priority, as well as the consistent use of live music for performances.

LDT consists of 10 dancers, five men and five women, hailing from major universities, dance companies, and training programs.

Tickets cost $20 and $30. To purchase tickets or for more information, call the Box Office, 908-725-3420, or order online atwww.rvccArts.org. Senior citizen, student and group discounts are available for most performances.
