READINGTON, NJ – A Flemington man was arrested Tuesday at Readington Middle School by Patrol Officer Jason Phares.
Police said school staff alerted them that the man – who is an employee of the school district - was seen removing an item from the school and placing it in his personal vehicle.
The item was a box of candy wrapped as a Christmas gift.
Phares arrested Peter Marro, 56, around 11 a.m. and charged him with theft. The candy was valued at about $50, police said.
According to school records, Marro was hired as a custodian for the school in 2014 at an annual salary of $35,220.
