FLEMINGTON, NJ – Although its long-term status is cloudy, the Filling Station will be open again on Main Street this year.
The Filling Station is the name given to the former Hineline’s Garage. The noted borough eyesore was transformed last year by the newly organized Flemington Community Partnership, with help from volunteers from the community and from Lowe’s.
Its July 1 debut was an instant hit. Beer, wine and food are provided by a rotating slate of local merchants. The venue also includes board games and is pet- and child-friendly.
“Fridays at the Patio” will be held here from May 26 through Aug. 18, Flemington Community Partnership Judy Goodwin told Flemington Council last night. She’s asking restaurateurs and other businesses to sign up with FCP to participate.
This could be the last season for the popular spot. The property is owned by the borough, and officials are exploring its sale. Borough Council rejected a proposal from Max Spann Real Estate to auction the property, and are now seeking other offers regarding its sale. Because the state Department of Environmental Protection helped pay for the site’s cleanup, it will also share in the proceeds of the sale.
