FLEMINGTON, NJ - High winds that continued on-and-off today have downed trees and, predictably, also taken down powerlines as well.
The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory at noon today for Hunterdon and surrounding counties. It is expected to remain in effect until 10 p.m.
The strong winds will blow around unsecured objects as well as tree limbs and power lines, NWS reports. And with the ground saturated from last night’s heavy rain, the agency says trees and power lines will be more susceptible to the adverse effects of strong winds.
Jersey Central Power & Light is reporting that more than 540 of its Hunterdon customers are without power. In addition to downtown Flemington, there are pockets of small outages throughout the county.
The company’s website is reporting that while some of the localized outages are awaiting dispatch, JCP&L expects to have power restored to everyone by tonight.
