Hillsborough Homeowner Takes Photo of Burglar Sleeping on her Bedroom Floor

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - A Nostrand Road resident retunring home Thursday morning with her 12-year-old son discovered a burglar asleep on her bedroom floor and took pictures of him after she called 911.

The homeowner told police that when she drove into her driveway, the garage door was open, She went inside the house, discovered items thrown around in several rooms, and discovered the suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Alexander T. Torres of Canal Road, South Bound Brook asleep on the floor in the master bedroom, according to Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

Torres was lying face down with a black colored back pack on his back, later identified as belonging to her son, Robertson added.

Robertson said the homeowner awakened Torres and he walked out of the house without saying anything to her or her son; the homeowner continued to photograph Torres as he walked down the street.

Hillsborough police quickly apprehended Torres on Campbell Road; nearby in a front yard police located the black back pack bearing the name of the homeowner’s son. The back pack contained electronic items and a U.S. dollar coin that the defendant had taken from the house, according to.Hillsborough Township Chief of Police Darren Powell

Torres was transported to the Somerset County Jail in Somerville where he is being held on $50,000 bail.

Torres faces third-degree charges of burglary and theft.
