BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Coming off a 3-7 season last year, the Hunterdon Central football team showed some promising signs in Friday night's opener.

Taking on powerhouse rival Bridgewater-Raritan, the Red Devils held a one-point halftime lead before the homestanding Panthers rallied to defeat Hunterdon Central, 21-10.

David Scheier's 99-yard kickoff return midway through the second quarter and Derek Scott's point-after kick gave Hunterdon Central a 7-6 lead. Bridgewater came back to take a 14-7 lead in the third quarter, but Scott kicked a 20-yard field goal after the Red Devil defense recovered a fumble for the second time in the game. That brought the Red Devils within four at 14-10 before the Panthers scored a TD in the final period.
