FLEMINGTON, NJ - A Flemington man was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for sexual assault, according to a report from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office.

Carlos Zacarias, 51, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for sexual assault, as well as a consecutive 18 months for contempt of court.

According to Acting Prosecutor Michael Williams, Zacarias was arrested June 5, 2018, after a joint investigation by detectives from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit and the Flemington Borough Police Department. Williams said the crimes had taken place over several months between September 2017 and February 2018, and involved a child under the age of 13 who he had a legal duty of care for.

In addition to the 10 years in state prison, Zacarias has been placed on parole supervision for life. He was charged with contempt of court for trying to convince the victim's mother to drop the charges.

Williams said Zacarias pled guilty on Sept. 17, 2019, and was sentenced Jan. 10.
