BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The New Britain Bees (22-28, 58-62) defeated the Somerset Patriots (26-24, 64-56) 11-9 on yesterday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Bees rallied from a 9-6 deficit in the top of the ninth inning to score five runs on closer Jon Hunton. Cole Garner hit an RBI single, Michael Crouse drove in a run on a double, and the big hit was a three-run double by Jake McGuiggan.

“Every game matters. That’s the most important thing and we have to take one game at a time. That’s baseball. You can’t always be on the winning side, but as long as you go out and compete every day you hopefully end up on the right side of these games,” said Scott Kelly.

Jovan Rosa started the scoring in the top of the first inning on a solo home run (12).

Somerset answered in the bottom of the frame on a two-run home run by Aharon Eggleston (7) to make the score 2-1.

Kyle Roller extend the Patriots’ lead with a three-run blast (7) to deep centerfield to make the score 5-1 after three innings.

The Bees got two more runs in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by Garner (3) and an RBI triple by McGuiggan.

The Patriots answered with three-runs in the fifth inning on Kelly’s first professional home run that gave Somerset an 8-4 lead.

“I guess it came at a good time. It put us up with a nice lead. It felt good, but the loss hurts more,” Kelly added.

Brandon Fry (3-3) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Hunton (0-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits in an inning pitched. Shawn Gilblair earned his 13th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season continues on the road until Monday, September 5 when the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the Sugar Land Skeeters at 5:05 p.m. The game features Fireworks and Pride Night. For tickets, call 908-252-0700 or visit somersetpatriots.com.
