RARITAN TWP., NJ - U.S. Olympic Softball Team hero Jennie Finch is at Diamond Nation today to lend her expertise to the annual two-day, 78-team Jennie Finch Spring Invitational.
The Olympic gold medalist makes three visits annually to Diamond Nation, the largest outdoor baseball and softball facility in the northeast, to meet, greet, instruct and coach young softball players drawn to the tournaments from multiple states.
“I love coming to Diamond Nation,” says Finch. “It makes my heart explode seeing so many young girls and families out at the softball academy playing and enjoying the game we love.”
Finch will be working with dozens of teams in the 10U, 12U and 14U age groups this weekend. Each team plays three games today which will set up the playoff brackets for Sunday.
“Coming to Diamond Nation brings me back to all the incredible memories and life lessons I’ve learned and experienced through softball,” said Finch.
The 10U tournament playoffs get underway at 11 a.m. on Sunday and the semifinals will be contested at 5:30 p.m. on Fields 1A and 1B. The 10U Jennie Finch Spring Invitational championship game is set for 7 p.m. on Sunday on Field 1A.
