RARITAN TWP., NJ. — Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) said he strongly supports the "Scope of Investigation" inquiry released yesterday by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

The Select Committee seeks an examination into Russia's alleged interference in the U.S. election, which would include potential contacts between Trump allies and Moscow as well as U.S. intelligence leaks.

Lance made the statement about his support in a press release. At his Town Hall meetings last week, Lance told reporters that he faced more questions from the public about Russia than he had expected.

Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (CA-22) and ranking Democrat Adam Schiff (CA-28) released a detailed, six-page scoping document outlining the lines of inquiry for the committee’s investigation:

  • What Russian cyber activity and other active measures were directed against the United States and its allies?
  • Did the Russian active measures include links between Russia and individuals associated with political campaigns or any other U.S. persons?
  • What was the U.S. government’s response to these Russian active measures and what do we need to do to protect ourselves and our allies in the future?
  • What possible leaks of classified information took place related to the Intelligence Community Assessment of these matters?

“I have long-supported the House Intelligence Committee’s bipartisan investigation into Russia’s interference in our election,” said Lance. “Under the leadership of Chairman Nunes and Ranking Member Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee has been investigating Russia and the Putin regime for years, including its hostile international actions, its cyber-aggression and international propaganda campaigns.  That’s why I believe the House Committee is well equipped to provide a full accounting of all the facts surrounding Russian activities related to the 2016 U.S. elections."
