FLEMINGTON, NJ – Officials are investigating the circumstances that appear to have led a man to shoot himself while in the parking lot of Readington police headquarters.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday evening and Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III said in a press release that it was an attempted suicide.

The man was in a semi-truck when he suffered the self-inflicted gunshot wound, Kearns said. Whitehouse Fire and Rescue Squad responded and the victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment.
