To the editor:
On Feb. 9, after much pressure from his constituency, Congressman Leonard Lance announced a town hall meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at Raritan Valley Community College. He asked for RSVPs to which I responded immediately.
A few days later, I started to hear complaints that you could no longer sign up even though he had added an overflow room. Yesterday he sent out an Eventbrite announcement to all his initial responders asking them to re-register for the meeting and when I responded again it had already sold out in less than 24 hours. I no longer had a reservation.
Leonard Lance is obviously packing the hall with supporters in order to avoid negative publicity. The information number he has listed on his website is now a recording which says it is no longer taking calls.
I called his Washington office and was told by his staff that it was too bad, it was first come, first serve - even though I had already responded. I was also told he added another event Saturday at 9 a.m.
Apparently Lance thinks he will wear out his constituency with his manipulation. The Eventbrite email also said no one would be allowed in with signs or paraphernalia of any kind. Mr. Lance is also trying to infringe on our First Amendment rights.
We are all going anyway, with signs, so the story will become the outside instead of the inside. By being manipulative you have made things far worse for yourself, Congressman Lance.
