BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Somerset Patriots (14-6) swept a doubleheader against the Bridgeport Bluefish (10-10) Wednesday at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, taking game one 4-3 and game two 9-1.

Somerset opened the scoring in the top of the second inning in game one on a Jerry Sands solo home run. Justin Pacchioli’s RBI single in the top of the third doubled the Patriots’ lead to 2-0.

Aharon Eggleston would increase the Somerset lead to 3-0 in the fifth before Bridgeport’s comeback began. A fifth-inning solo home run from Santiago Nessy, a two-out RBI double from David Fields in the sixth and a two-out Jose Cuevas RBI single in the seventh tied the ballgame at 3-3.

In the next half inning, Adam Donachie launched a go-ahead RBI double to straight-away centerfield to put Somerset back in front 4-3.

Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. Ryan Kelly (1-0) earned the win after allowing an unearned run in one inning of relief. Frank DeJulio Jr. (0-3) took the loss, yielding one run on three hits in one inning of relief. Ronnie Shaban (1) earned his first save of the year with a scoreless eighth.

The Patriots started the scoring in game two in the first inning on an Sands RBI groundout. Two more runs would score in the second - including a Scott Kelly RBI single - before Sands’ two-run homer in the third increased Somerset’s lead to 5-0.

Three more Patriots’ runs would come home to score in the fifth, including a Sands RBI single and two run-scoring groundouts. Somerset topped off their scoring in the seventh on a Pacchioli RBI single, while the Bluefish added a run on an RBI double from Nessy to finalize the score at 9-1.

David Kubiak (1-2) earned the win, thanks to five scoreless innings on four hits with six strikeouts. Jonathan Albaladejo (2-1) took the loss after he yielded eight runs on 11 hits in five innings of work.

The Patriots travel to Waldorf, Maryland Thursday to open up a four-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. RHP Lucas Irvine will make his fourth start of the season for Somerset against Southern Maryland righty Gaby Hernandez.

This is an example of young citizens thinking for themselves and taking coordinated political action – a time-honored and respected duty of any thoughtful, responsible American citizen.
