FLEMINGTON, NJ – Protestors are taking to the streets in hundreds of locations across the country today. Some have held marches, some have staged sit-ins, but most seem to share a common theme: Trump’s immigration policies, and the consequences.

In Flemington, Hunterdon County Democrats organized an event held on the steps of Main Street’s old Historic Courthouse. It featured speakers, chants and song – including Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land.” The theme was, “Keep Families Together.”

Among the scheduled speakers are Sen. Robert Menendez and Congressional candidate Tom Malinowski.

Some of the speakers were less well-known, including Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz. Borough officials weren’t especially visible, with the notable exception of Councilperson Betsy Driver.

Many of the speakers were ordinary citizens, some of whom shared their stories of immigration and naturalization. The reflection caused more than one to choke back tears.

Hundreds attended the event here. Many more drove passed, honking horns and flashing the “thumbs up” sign in support.
