RARITAN TWP., NJ  - Officials here have cut, or in some cases eliminated, fees for township services to benefit military veterans.

Pet licenses, recycling fees, construction code fees all have reduced or zero fees for veterans. The complete list can be found online at raritan-township.com or in the clerk’s office.

“This is a great way to recognize those who served our country,” said Mayor Karen Gilbert in a press release.

To qualify for the discount, the resident must qualify as a veteran under the state of New Jersey, or:

  • be currently serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard, or their reserve components, or the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard; or
  • have served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard for a minimum of four years and received a general discharge or higher; or
  • have served in any combination of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard, or their reserve components, or the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard for a minimum of six years and having received a general discharge or higher.

The changes became effective May 2.
