FLEMINGTON, NJ - The Rotary Clubs of Hunterdon County will be holding their 13th Annual Hunterdon County Soup Cook-Off Feb. 24 at the Hunterdon Central Regional High School Commons, in Flemington.
The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. ShopRite of Hunterdon is the sponsor of the event.
The event is organized as a joint effort by the Rotary Clubs of Flemington, Clinton Sunrise, North Hunterdon, Lambertville-New Hope, Whitehouse and the Hunterdon Horizon eClub.
There will be prizes for People's Choice and Judge's Choice, and the champions will have the honor of displaying the Souper Bowl Trophy in the restaurant for one year. An additional award will be presented for the best visual presentation.
At the 2019 event, 20 local restaurants entered their favorite soup to compete for "Best Soup in Hunterdon County," according to a release. First place for people's choice went to Matt's Red Rooster for the rustic wild mushroom soup; second place went to Mt. View Chalet for the butternut squash soup; and third place went to Clean Plate Kitchen for a vegan red curried sweet potato and carrot soup.
The judge's choice first place went to Homestead Butcher Shop for the roasted butternut squash bisque soup; second place went to Clean Plate Kitchen for a vegan red curried sweet potato and carrot soup; and third place went to Cafe Galleria for their ginger carrot bisque soup.
The event usually raises about $10,000, which is then donated to the six food pantries of Hunterdon County to fight hunger. In addition to a $15 entrance fee, attendees are asked to bring a can of food as a donation to the pantry.
The entry deadline to be part of the contest is Jan. 31, and there is a limit of 20 participating restaurants, which will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
