FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP- A 31-year-old North Brunswick man has surrendered to police in connection with the early morning shooting of a 25-year-old resident of Franklin Township (Somerset County) on Nov. 4, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.
Kasin A. Coffey, a resident of Driscoll Court in North Brunswick, has been charged with second degree aggravated assault and second degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He is being lodged at the Somerset County Jail in Somerville pending a detention hearing.
Robertson provided the following account:
Franklin Township Police on patrol in the 700 block of Somerset Street were notified of the 9:22 a.m. shooting which they confirmed, but the victim had already driven himself to a nearby hospital where he was being treated for a single, non life-threatening gunshot wound. He was released from the hospital that day.
Franklin Township police detectives, along with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit were called in, and their investigation focused on Coffey as the man responsible for the shooting.
Detectives contacted the suspect who agreed to surrender to authorities. He turned himself in at Franklin police headquarters on Friday, Nov. 8 at 12:20 p.m.
