The cookies are being recalled because they may contain metal fragments. No other products sold by the Fresh Bake department are subject to the recall, according to the press release.

The cookies were sold between July 19 and Aug. 4, according to the statement. Affected items have the following information noted on their labels -  Name: Gourmet Chocolate Chunk Salted Caramel Cookies, UPC 28978500000, UPC 28977600000; Gourmet Variety Pack Cookies, UPC 38978600000 and UPC 28977200000.

In the press release, ShopRite spokeswoman Karen Meleta said the supermarket is advising customers who bought the cookies “to return them for an immediate refund or replacement."

Using data collected from the store’s Price Plus Club card, the supermarket has contacted customers who bought the cookies by phone and email to alert them to the recall.

ShopRite operates more than 260 supermarkets throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland.
