BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (36-27, 74-59) shut out the New Britain Bees (32-31, 68-65) 7-0 yesterday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark to take the crucial three game series over their division rivals.

The Patriots are up by 4 games in the Liberty Division with 7 games left to play in Connecticut on their last road trip of the season. They will face off against the Bees and Bridgeport Bluefish, both tied for second in the division with identical 32-31 records.

Rob Kral powered Somerset to a 5-0 lead with a three-run home run (3) in the bottom of the second inning.

“I just kept on with the day-to-day process. I continued to work hard and work on my swing. Fortunately for me, things went my way today,” said Kral, who finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run, a triple, and three RBI.

The Patriots extended the lead with a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Vinny Zarrillo for a 6-0 advantage.

A Kyle Roller RBI groundout in the seventh inning made the score the 7-0 final.

Will Oliver (6-2) picked up the win with seven scoreless innings pitched. Nate Roe (5-2) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs in two innings pitched.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season will continue on the road for the remainder of the regular season. The next home game will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 21 if the Somerset Patriots earn a playoff berth. For tickets, call 908-252-0700 or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
