RARITAN TWP., NJ – On Monday, the K-8 school district board here set three goals for itself. Settling its contract with the teacher’s union was suggested as one of them, but not chosen because it wasn’t optional, but something the school board had to do.

Today, the Flemington-Raritan Board of Education announced a tentative agreement on a new employment contract with the union, the Flemington-Raritan Education Association.

Terms of the agreement weren’t released. In a statement, the board said they are subject to document preparation and are confidential until ratification of the contract by both parties.

Teachers have been pleading with the board to settle the contract for months, frequently attending school board meetings wearing distinctive blue shirts.
