RARITAN TWP., NJ - A Rescue Truck Pull Fundraiser will be held at HealthQuest Nov. 3 to benefit Flemington-Raritan First Aid & Rescue Squad.
Teams comprised of 10 to 12 will compete to pull the Squad’s 68,000-pound rescue truck approximately 50 yards in the fastest time. The event will also include educational and safety demonstrations from EMTs and a smaller kid’s truck pull.
It will be the second annual staging of the event and will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All registration fees and on-site donations will benefit the non-profit, volunteer-led Flemington-Raritan First Aid & Rescue Squad.
The day’s main event will see the teams pulling the squad’s largest vehicle, Heavy Rescue 495, about 50 yards across a section of the HealthQuest parking lot. The team able to complete the pull in the fastest time will be added to a trophy listing all Rescue Truck Pull winners.
Heavy Rescue 495 is a 2010 Pierce Velocity Heavy Duty Rescue. At 68,000 pounds, 41.5 feet long, and accommodating an eight-person crew, it carries equipment to respond to emergencies such as vehicle entrapments, structural or trench collapses, elevator emergencies, and others.
Last year’s Truck Pull was won by the Raritan Township Police Department’s team, who will also be competing this year.
The smaller kid’s truck pull will be available for youngsters using a smaller squad vehicle.
Squad EMTs will be on hand to demonstrate their lifesaving equipment to visitors of all ages. Refreshments including soft drinks, beer, and hamburgers will be provided free of charge by HealthQuest and Costco.
The event is open to the public. Participants and spectators do not need to be HealthQuest members to attend. Participants are invited to form their own teams; individuals and smaller groups who sign up will join a team Captained by a HealthQuest personal trainer.
The cost to participate is $20 with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Squad.
In honor of Veterans Day, military veterans are invited to participate free of charge.
HealthQuest personal training clients can also participate for free. Emergency services agencies, such as EMS/Rescue Squads, Police Departments, and Fire Companies can participate with a team of up to 12 for a flat fee of $160.
“We rely on support from the community to help provide equipment, training, and of course volunteers,” said Squad Vice President Andrew Glowacki. “We’re really excited that HealthQuest has given us the opportunity to meet more of our neighbors through such a unique event.”
The public can sign up by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Emergency services agencies looking to field a team should contact email@example.com. HealthQuest members can sign up at the program desk or online.
