SOMERVILLE, NJ - The third suspect wanted in connection with a shooting on the south side of Somerville on Oct. 26 has surrendered to police, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.
Joseph N. Wright, 25, of Schindler Terrace, Bridgewater, has been charged with first degree attempted murder, second degree possession of a firearm, second degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and second degree certain persons not to possess a firearm, according to Robertson, who provided the following background on the shooting:
Somerville Police responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Third Street and Center Street around 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 26. A motorist from Easton, Pa. was in the area when he was approached by Azikwa D. Rustin and Joseph N. Wright who shot at him while he was seated inside his motor vehicle.
Rustin was shot in the buttocks by Wright, according to Robertson. A third suspect, Alquan Harris, 20, of Somerville, was also present during the shooting, and participated in events related to the shooting, Robertson added.
Harris surrendered to the Somerset County Prosecutor’ Office on Nov. 3. While investigators are attempting to determine a motive for the shooting, preliminary results are that the victim may have been mistaken for another individual.
On Nov. 17, at 8:30 a.m., Wright surrendered to the Franklin Township Police Department.
Wright was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
