FLEMINGTON, NJ – What a statement released by Borough Councilperson Brooke Liebowitz calls a “a long and strenuous effort” has resulted in a revised Main Street redevelopment plan that will preserve the Historic Union hotel, it was revealed Friday afternoon.

The borough's Redevelopment Committee, along with Jack Cust and his team, “have continuously looked for opportunities to preserve historic buildings” that have been part of the project, the statement issued on behalf of Borough Council said.

Changes in the project’s outlook and market conditions helped make the change possible.

“Despite all the time, resources and funds invested in the current plan, both parties agreed to take another look at options” to save the hotel, according to the statement released by Leibowitz..

“All sides recognize the physical and emotional value this building has to us as Flemington residents, as well as for residents throughout Hunterdon,” it added.

Renderings of the revised redevlopment plan will be released soon, Liebowitz said, possibly on Monday.
