FLEMINGTON, NJ - The Western Jersey Wheelmen will hold a variety of rides on July 10, ranging from 16 to 100 miles.
All the rides, which are open to members and non-members alike, will take place in Hunterdon on the Hunterdon Plateau west of Flemington. Because the plateau is a flat area, the group is calling the 100-mile ride and the 100-kilometer ride the Flateau Century. Ride leaders will take bikers along farms on country roads, with just enough rollers and turns to make it interesting.
The Flateau Century makes a great first century because cyclists are never more than five miles from their cars. Each of the route's three loops pass the starting point where riders can rest and replenish their supplies. There are also convenience stores along the way where riders can take a break. For experienced century riders, this is a great route to do a personal best.
Cue sheets will be provided and the routes are also marked on the roads. A GPS link for each route will be on the club website and additional rides will be posted closer to the ride date.
The rides will start throughout the morning and the longer rides will finish around 4 p.m., when riders can enjoy a cash bar on Brunello's patio and buy an Italian lunch special for $13.
The starting location is Brunello Trattoria, 300 Old Croton Rd., Flemington. The restaurant is west of Flemington on Route 579 just north of Route 12.
These are the scheduled rides and their starting times:
• C - Century - 7 a.m.
• B - Century - 8 a.m
• A - Century - 9 a.m.
• C - Metric - 9:30 a.m.
