FLEMINGTON, NJ - The Western Jersey Wheelmen, a local recreational bicycle club, recently held its annual event, The Flateau Century. The group had more than 60 people participate in seven rides.

The youngest rider was a ten-year-old, who rode his brand new road bike, and the oldest was a great-grandfather who respectfully declined to give his age. Riders came from all over Hunterdon, Somerset and Morris counties. There was even a couple from Nyak, New York, who traveled and hour and a half to join the ride.

Brunello’s Trattoria in Flemington hosted the event where members enjoyed food, drinks and great stories. ShopRite of Flemington co-sponsored the event providing protein bars, fruit and energy snacks.

This year the Wheelmen decided that they wanted to help a local organization, so they collected donations for the Flemington Food Pantry. By the time the event was over, the collection box was overflowing with contributions. Club president Kurt Grabfelder met with Food Pantry’s Executive Director Gary White to drop off a cart full of donations. They look forward to many more contributions at future events.

Western Jersey Wheelmen’s next big event is the Ride-a-Palooza in early October which includes another century ride. More information on this as well as other rides can be found on the website www.bikewjw.org.
