FLEMINGTON, NJ – Those who are disappointed that the Flemington Community Pool will not be open this year should know that there are alternatives.

The Community Pool dates back to the early ‘60s and is run by a non-profit group. The group’s website says that it has had maintenance issues with the all-steel pool for years, including issues with its underground pipes. The repairs it needs now are estimated to cost more than $100,000, with no guarantee that they would resolve all the issues. As a result, its long-term future is cloudy.

The Hunterdon County YMCA is offering summer membership rates which provides families and individuals the opportunity to have fun and be healthy this summer. The special rate is valid now through August 31.

Membership includes use of the indoor pool and gymnasium at the Deer Path branch and the fitness centers at Deer Path and Round Valley branches.

Y members have access to water exercise classes and more than 100 group fitness classes per week, at no additional cost.

Babysitting with fun activities is provided, allowing parents to work on their own health and wellness routines. Membership also provides the option to register for classes and camps at the special full member rate.

YMCA Full Facility membership includes use of the Camp Carr outdoor pool evening and weekends starting June 18. The pool, located at 1 Camp Buck Road, Annandale, is open to Y members:

  • Monday – Thursday:     6 – 8p.m.
  • Friday:                           5 – 8 p.m.
  • Saturday:                     10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Sunday:                       10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The summer session of classes at the YMCA begin June 18. During the summer, swim lessons at the Deer Path Branch are offered in convenient two, four or eight week sessions. Swim lessons are offered for children as young as six months through adults for all levels of swimmers. Summer classes also include sports, karate and dance and gymnastics.

The YMCA also offers summer aquatics programs at the Union Gap Village Outdoor Pool in Clinton.

In addition to summer classes, the Y offers Summer Day Camps at four locations throughout the county. Summer Camps start on June 18 and limited spaces are still available.

For more information visit the YMCA website, or stop either Y branch: Deer Path branch, 144 West Woodschurch Rd., Readington or the Round Valley branch, 1410 Rt. 22 West, Clinton Township.

YMCA Financial Assistance is available to qualified applicants.

June 18, 2018

To the editor:

In response to the Governor's recent signing of legislation restricting law-abiding gun owners to 10 rounds of ammunition and rejecting calls to address the uneven playing field existing vis-à-vis some single mom alone with her child fending for herself against some armed assailant packing who knows how many rounds is something a Politburo thug would appreciate! The ...

This year alone, it will cost $277 billion to take care of those stricken. The Alzheimer’s Association predicts that, by 2050, more than 14 million Americans will be ...

Candidates 'Weaponized' News Article

To the editor:

I was dismayed to see my 2014 news reportage inaccurately weaponized by council members Marc Hain and Brooke Warden in their campaign flier attacking Al Brewer. The headline “School security at issue: Flemington-Raritan board member accused of leaking secrets” is less than a half-truth, given the ensuing revelation.

Marc and Brook ignored my follow-up report in ...
