To the editor,
I am a Democrat in Hunterdon County.
I am a Democrat and proud of the fact. I wonder if there are people in Hunterdon that don’t admit that. They don’t admit it because they are tired of being verbally abused by the right-wing radical Republicans in the county. Mention the President's name and they swoon and talk about his virtues while I am in the corner trying to keep my lunch down. Recently the President told a Democratic legislator that if half of what they say about "her" is true she should go back where she came from. If half the things that are said about him are true, he should be in jail.
Democrats in Hunterdon lament the fact that few Democrats get elected. Not many get elected to township committees victories and certainly not Freeholder. They say why don’t they get elected. You want to know why; it’s because Democrats don’t get involved and it’s because Democrats don’t go out to vote. They say “why vote we always lose?” That is certainly a double-edged sword. They didn’t vote because we can’t win but we didn’t win because they didn’t vote.
It is time that Hunterdon County Democrats got off their collective butts and supported the party. Volunteer to help canvas, hand out flyers, go to the fundraisers and help by donating campaign funds. Go to the Township Committee meetings, Planning and Board of Adjustment meetings. Get involved! Be informed. Contact your friends that are Democrats and get them involved. Do something! We can’t win if we don’t support the party, we can’t win if we don’t fight, and we certainly can’t win if we all don’t vote.
My father told me when I was old enough to vote: "If you don’t vote you have no right to complain about the outcome.” If you don’t get out and vote for the Democrat you help the opposition get elected. As Thomas Jefferson said, "An informed citizenry is at the heart of a dynamic democracy.”
Get involved, be informed and vote in the November election. We can win! The Chinese Culture has 2019 as the year of the boar. Let’s make:
2019 in Hunterdon County “The Year of the Democrat”
Sharon Winnick for Raritan Township Committee
Savet Rosenblum and Natalie Ferry for Hunterdon County Freeholder
Dominick Puzio for Hunterdon County Sheriff
