FLEMINGTON, NJ - Gov. Phil Murphy’s announcement that outdoor graduation ceremonies that observe social distancing guidelines can resume in New Jersey starting July 6 was welcome news to Hunterdon Central Regional High School.

The governor made the announcement on twitter one hour before his daily briefing Tuesday.

Hunterdon Central Superintendent Jeff Moore said the announcement “is a hopeful sign and has us excited about other potential opportunities to celebrate our seniors at the end of this very unique school year.”

Moore informed the school board at their recent meeting that plans were underway to honor the Class of 2020.  The graduation date was moved to June 19 with a virtual graduation ceremony in the works, per a directive from the state Department of Education.

As he pointed out during that meeting, Moore said Murphy’s announcement has not included any further guidance on what restrictions the district needs to observe while planning celebrations. He says they are “eagerly awaiting that guidance."
