RARITAN TWP. – Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Raritan Township will not be holding its usual Memorial Day ceremony Monday.
Although the ceremony itself will not be held, a commemorative wreath will be placed by the monument on the morning of Memorial Day Monday.
According to a release from the township, for the past 37 years, local veterans have been remembered and honored on Memorial Day in a ceremony at the Vietnam Memorial in front of the municipal building in town. The monument is dedicated to Mike Baldwin and Fred Zyck, who grew up together in Raritan Township and were both killed while serving as Army sergeants in Vietnam.
On Monday, family members and friends of Baldwin and Zyck, as well as the rest of the community, are invited to stop by and pay their respects throughout the day.
"Let us all take time to remember and honor all who have served and continue to serve, and especially those who gave their lives for our country," the release said.
