RARITAN TWP., N.J. – The three residents of Millbrook Place have requested that the name of their street be changed because they are tired of being confused with Millbrook Road.
An ordinance to make the change will be introduced at the township committee’s next meeting on Feb. 18.
If approved by the committee, Millbrook Place would become Burry Lane. The name comes from the former owner of the land the development sits on.
The change was requested in November, according to township administrator Don Hutchins, because of mix-ups with package delivery. He added that while the U.S. Postal Service has a consistent delivery person, other couriers like Amazon, FedEx and UPS do not.
“They felt if the name was changed to something not similar, the issue would be mitigated,” he said.
Hutchins said changing the name of the street will not cost taxpayers anything, though the residents on the street will have to go through and change their addresses with banks and other institutions.
The request first went to the tax assessor and 911 coordinator before it was brought to the township committee. They came to a consensus at their Feb. 4 meeting to introduce an ordinance to make the change.
